{"id":798,"date":"2012-07-04T08:28:23","date_gmt":"2012-07-04T13:28:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.apluscompsci.com\/blog\/?p=798"},"modified":"2012-07-04T08:28:50","modified_gmt":"2012-07-04T13:28:50","slug":"ap-computer-science-sis-return","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.apluscompsci.com\/blog\/ap-computer-science-sis-return\/","title":{"rendered":"AP Computer Science SIs &#8211; return;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well,<br \/>\nAll 3 of my AP SIs have concluded. \u00a0I had a great time at all 3 stops and look forward to doing a few <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apluscompsci.com\/workshops.htm\">summer institutes<\/a> again next year.<\/p>\n<p>This year, I started each SI with Scratch and Jeroo on the first day and then moved on to GridWorld and lots of Java. \u00a0I spent considerable time on arrays and ArrayLists as those topics constitute a huge part of the exam. \u00a0We worked with arrays and lists using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apluscompsci.com\/material.htm\">graphics, games, and cross-curricular focused projects<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Time was spent discussing ways to show students how important Computer Science skills all to other disciplines and to students considering a degree other than Computer Science. \u00a0We read articles each day, like the ones I post here on this blog and discussed the relevance of talking about articles in class.<\/p>\n<p>I just received a link to a great <a href=\"http:\/\/engineering.stanford.edu\/news\/period-transition-stanford-computer-science-rethinks-core-curriculum\">article about Stanford Computer Science<\/a> and the changes they have made. \u00a0It is a great article and makes me feel great about many of the changes I have made to my curriculum over the last 3 or 4 years.<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy the rest of your summer!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, All 3 of my AP SIs have concluded. \u00a0I had a great time at all 3 stops and look forward to doing a few summer institutes again next year.
