{"id":438,"date":"2010-04-27T16:01:33","date_gmt":"2010-04-27T21:01:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.apluscompsci.com\/blog\/?p=438"},"modified":"2010-04-27T16:06:39","modified_gmt":"2010-04-27T21:06:39","slug":"cs-news-is-the-iphone-bad-for-computer-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.apluscompsci.com\/blog\/cs-news-is-the-iphone-bad-for-computer-science\/","title":{"rendered":"CS News &#8211; Is the iPhone Bad for Computer Science?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.silicon.com\/technology\/software\/2010\/04\/23\/why-the-iphone-could-be-bad-news-for-computer-science-39745730\/\">Is the iPhone Bad for Computer Science?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This article asks some great questions.\u00a0 Is the closed system of the iPhone bad for Computer Science?\u00a0 I guess it depends on how you look at it.\u00a0 My students really enjoy writing phone apps and the iPhone has only increased their interest.\u00a0 Yeah, it would cool to tinker more with the iPhone system without having to &#8220;jail-break&#8221; the phone as they say, but writing apps for a few bucks creates quite a bit of interest as well.\u00a0 I see this iPhone situation as being similar to working on your automobiles before computer controls took over.\u00a0 Back in the day, you could pop the hood and get a few wrenches and start tearing your engine apart.\u00a0 This was once no big deal.\u00a0 Now, you have to have a degree in Computer Science to deal with the high tech computer systems under the hood or you might cause the reactor to melt down.\u00a0 Today, to beef up your engine, you have to buy a book and figure out how to overclock your car engine so to speak with chips and such.\u00a0 Sounds an awful lot like a Computer Science problem.\u00a0 I think the iPhone situation is similar as well.\u00a0\u00a0 The more high tech the gadget, the more high tech the tinkers have to become or they will just tinker on something else.<\/p>\n<p>That is just my 10 cents!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the 10 is in binary<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Is the iPhone Bad for Computer Science?
