Slideshows and Notes

All of the A+ Computer Science units include a slideshow presentation and a pdf of the slides with additional notes.

The slideshows and notes pages take the place of a traditional textbook. I use slides rather than a textbook for a couple reasons : first,  students do not read the extraneous verbage in a textbook and second, most textbooks are out of date before they are printed.  I choose to use slides to provide the important details and to allow for rapid updating and editing.

For each topic covered, a slideshow is provided that has definitions, explanations, diagrams, pictures, and java code with output.  Most slides also have an additional notes page that provides added explanations and information. The slideshows can be printed as notes pages to provide a book layout. Students can add notes to the printed pages as needed.

I post all of my presentations and example java files on my school's student server. Many of my students work ahead of the class and go through the power point slides and java examples on their own as they need them. I strongly encourage students to view the slides and examples before I go over them in class. Many of my students also take the slides and examples home and use them to study and review for tests and quizzes.
